As mentioned in my last DIY post, I decided to try making a new body butter using Mango and Cocoa butter. Guess what?!!  I am so LOVE with this blend!!!

The smell of it is so pleasant that I could eat it. It turned out amazing!  The main ingredients are Mango butter, Cocoa butter, and Coconut oil.  Using the super creative side of me (haha), I decided to call this creation “Mang-Coa-Nut” body butter! Yes, I really do amaze myself !!!

“Mang-Coa-Nut” body butter

Before talking about how I made the amazing “Mang-Coa-Nut” butter, I want to inform you of the excellent benefits the mango and cocoa butter is blessed with.

Mango Butter

Mango butter has plenty to offer regarding natural beauty and skin care.  You may be asking where does mango butter even come from?  Well if you have ever eaten the exotic mango fruit, you know how enjoyable it is right down to the seed.  The seed or Kernel that gets tossed away is where all the magic is hidden.

Where does Mango butter come from?

The seed or kernel of the mango is loaded with nutrient-dense fats! The fatty oils that get extracted from the kernels are pressed and then gently refined to create Mango Butter.  The creamy, moisturizing butter can be used for many things but is perfect for conditioning hair and skin.

For this project, I purchased and used Oslove Organics Mango Butter-1b.

Mango butter is very pale white and has a very mild smell (sorry it does not smell like mangos). The texture is soft and creamy and very easy to use as it absorbs quickly into the skin.

What are the benefits of mango butter?

Mango butter is excellent for all skin types. It is great for moisturizing and hydrating your skin and hair, helps soothe bug bites and burns, heals scars, complexion booster, and a natural UV protector.

Shea and Cocoa butter have some of the same beneficial properties of Mango butter but the fatty acid profile varies slightly with an enhanced level of anti-oxidants and vitamins A, C and E. These bonuses helps to soften the skin and bring it alive.

Cocoa Butter

Before I even begin to start talking about this butter, I want to warn you, that if you like the smell of warm chocolate, you will love this butter. The aroma alone is to die for!

Where does Cocoa butter come from?

Cocoa butter also called theobroma oil,  is an edible vegetable fat that comes from the cocoa bean.  The been is fermented, roasted, pressed and then the fats are separated from its hulls.  You may not have even realized this, but you may have eaten cocoa butter many times as it is the base of all chocolates.

I purchased and used Botanix Raw Cocoa butter but any Cocao butter can be used as long as you choose an unrefined one.

Cocoa butter is pale yellow with a mild but noticeable aroma of chocolaty cocoa in its unrefined form (always go for the unrefined versions as it maintains its natural properties and benefits).  The butter used in making chocolate and skin care products.  This butter is a very stable fat and is it is loaded with antioxidants. It is solid at room temperature and melts at body temperature.

What are the benefits of Cocoa Butter?

Cocoa butter is also great for all skin types.  It is great for moisturizing skin and hair, especially treating dandruff. This butter is great for healing chapped lips, fights aging, manages rashes.  Cocoa butter is edible and great for increasing heart health.  These are just a few of the many benefits.

Cocoa butter is also rich in healthy saturated fats like coconut oil and is loaded with antioxidants. The fact that you can eat this product and apply it to your skin for protection makes it double the fun.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil was also added to this body butter mix. This oil has amazing health properties as well. Check out my Top 5 Uses and Benefits of Coconut oil.

The Making of My “Mang-Coa-Nut” Butter

The making of my Mang-Coa-Nut butter was made in the same way I did my Shea body butter.  In this production, I just used different ingredients.

Mango, Cocoa butter and Coconut oil in a bowl

FIRST STEP:

  • Combine Mango butter, Coconut butter, Coconut oil in a mixing bowl
  • Place the bowl over a pot with water on the heated stove (double boiler style)
  • Allow the mixture to melt on low heat

SECOND STEP:Melted Mango, Cocoa butter and Coconut oil in bowl

  • Allow everything to melt until it has no lumps left
  • Remove the bowl from the heated stove top

THIRD STEP:Chilled mango Cocoa butter and Coconut oil

  • Place melted butter in the fridge or freezer to cool
  • Once hardened remove to room temperature
  • Depending on the size of your batch it may take up to 1-2 hrs to set

FOURTH STEP:Whipped Mangp, Cocoa butter and Coconut oil in a a bowl

  • Using a hand mixer blend your butter until desired consistency
  • This phase is where you can add the essential oils (always add these oils in this phase to keep its properties)
  • This time I added Lavender, sweet almond oil with lemongrass
  • It is best to jar your whipped creation in a glass jar

Quick and easy right????

I can not get enough of this Mang-Coa-Nut butter.  The smell alone puts me in a good mood. It keeps my skin feeling smooth all day long.  I am definitely in my happy place when I use this product. I will be making my third batch pretty soon.
